1. Pass a Climate Emergency Act which will call for a nationwide assessment on the effects of climate change throughout the country especially on key sectors like agriculture, water supply, disaster, etc.; then fund necessary research and development, and climate-proof solutions implementation based on the results of the assessment.
3. Stop the reclamation of Manila Bay and the construction of the Bulacan airport.
5. Ban single-use plastics.
6. Stop environmentally destructive projects like mining, which endangers key areas like Palawan, Romblon, and Dinagat Island among others.
Green Party of the Philippines, Bayanihan Para sa Kalikasan, together with other organizations DECLARE CLIMATE EMERGENCY
GPP and BPKMI are committed to taking immediate and significant steps to assist and help in the mitigation and adaptation of communities considering the effects of the current climate crisis. We pledge to take the following three steps to accomplish this:
- We will push for green governance across communities both local and national including the review, creation, and implementation of policies related to the protection, nurturing, and preservation of the environment.
- We will document success stories across the country, and help implement solutions towards adaptation, mitigation, and other means to combat the effects of the climate crisis.
- We will conduct, promote, and hold educational discussions, capacity building, and other means to empower the youth, communities, and leaders.
We recognize that these commitments are only the beginning of our efforts to address the climate emergency, and we remain committed to continuous improvement and collaboration with other organizations and stakeholders toward a balanced and healthy ecology for us and future generations.
We call on the government to declare a national state of climate emergency and get our governmental institutions to act accordingly. Mainstream a pro-environment and pro-people approach to climate change adaptation and mitigation. We urge our duty bearers to go beyond the minimum of climate talks and monitoring targets, and urgently uphold climate justice by halting profit-driven, ecologically-destructive projects, and empowering our communities the self-determination for climate change adaptation.
Sama-sama tayong kumilos.
Mamayan at Pamahalaan.
