Manipulation tactics of the government are outdated. As the Gen Z puts it, the Filipino people refuse to be “gaslighted” by overt misinformation and blatant disregard of the public clamor. The five gas bills that are being pushed to support the fossil gas industry in the Philippines will only fan the flames of profit for big companies and their capitalists’ owners in wreaking havoc in the ongoing climate crisis. It’s clear: these bills are fueling disaster, not progress.
Under the Escudero-led Senate, who is known to fuel its political career using fossil gas giants, these proposed laws will just confine Filipino electricity users to costly, hazardous, and dirty energy sources. This isn’t progress–it’s a power play at public’s expense
Let us not forget the Philippines' commitment to the Paris Agreement, which aims to significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change globally. This commitment aligns with the efforts of sub-national and local government’s striving for 100 percent renewable energy by 2030. Let this protest action must set a reminder to these politicians to stay true to their mandate; because the public is not being swayed by their dirty politicking, and “fuel-lish” antics. ###
BATANGAS RESIDENT JOSEPH VARGAS ON PH GOVT’S FAST-TRACKING OF GAS BILLS
